Mr Jason Chuen is the medical director of Eastern Vascular.
After gaining his initial medical qualifications from The University of Melbourne and The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Jason undertook his surgical training across a variety of major metropolitan and rural hospitals, including The Royal Melbourne and Western Hospitals, Austin Hospital, Geelong Hospital, The Northern Hospital, Box Hill Hospital, Hamilton Base Hospital, Wodonga Base Hospital and Waikato Hospital in New Zealand.
Upon obtaining his surgical fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) specialising in Vascular Surgery, Jason joined the vascular surgical unit at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide whilst undergoing further endovascular training with Dr John Anderson at Ashford Hospital. In 2008, Jason returned to Melbourne to commence public and private practice in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, with public hospital appointments to Box Hill Hospital, Austin Hospital, and The Northern Hospital. Jason's main private rooms are located at Elgar Hill Medical Suites in Box Hill, with regular consulting sessions at La Trobe Private Hospital in Bundoora.
Jason maintains an active interest in all aspects of vascular surgery and employs many modern and minimally invasive techniques in his daily practice. These include endovascular aortic aneurysm repair, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and stenting for peripheral arterial disease, as well as ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy and endovenous laser ablation surgery for venous diseases such as varicose veins. He also performs renal transplant surgery at the Austin Hospital.
At Box Hill, Austin, and Northern Hospitals, Jason maintains an academic and teaching role amongst medical students at both The University of Melbourne and Monash University clinical schools, as well as teaching junior and senior surgical trainees through regular lectures, tutorials, clinical rotations and workshops. Jason teaches surgical skills as an instructor on the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons ASSET workshop and General Surgery Pre-Fellowship Exam Course, and is also a trial examiner for the Adelaide Vascular Trial Exams (AVT) course.
Jason is engaged in the development of surgical training, fellowship and health policy by serving as deputy chair of the RACS Younger Fellows Committee, elected member of the RACS Victorian State Committee, and the Victorian Department of Health Ministerial Advisory Committee on Surgical Services. Jason also serves as webmaster of the MVSA (Melbourne Vascular Surgery Association) website and is a committee member of the Australian Chinese Medical Association of Victoria.
