Tom Tsiang Memorial Prize
The Ching Tang (Tom) Tsiang Memorial Prize commemorates the late Dr Tsiang, the Foundation President of the ACMAV, who died in December 2008. An endowment fund was established by the ACMAV with the generous support of the family of the late Dr Tsiang, and the interest is used to fund this annual prize.
Dr Tsiang was a distinguished General Practitioner and Acupuncturist who, together with the then Victorian AMA President Dr George Santoro, formed the Chinese Medical Society in 1985, which later became the ACMAV. Dr Tsiang embraced a vision for this organisation which included the following aims:
- To provide a forum for professional and social exchange amongst doctors with a common ethnic Chinese background
- To support the continuing medical education of its members
- To respond to community health issues affecting both the general and Chinese communities;
- To promote the achievement of its members, including the practice of traditional methods of Chinese medicine.
The Prize is awarded to an ACMAV member who, through his or her service to the organisation or community, is deemed to have made a significant contribution which furthers the aims of the ACMAV.
The prize will be awarded by the ACMAV Committee and presented at the final educational dinner seminar of the year.
The exact sum of funds available and hence the value of the prize will vary from year to year, depending on the income derived from the endowment fund.
